Privacy policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and what we do not do with it.

Last updated 26 August 2026

Lakatips is a place to read headlines. You do not need an account, and we have deliberately built it so that there is very little about you for us to hold in the first place.

What we collect

When you read

Our server keeps ordinary web logs — the page requested, the time, the browser type and the network address the request came from. This is how any web server works and it is what lets us find faults and block abuse. We also count how many times each story page is opened, as a plain number attached to the story, not to you.

We do not set advertising or tracking cookies of our own, and we do not build a profile of you.

When you write to us

If you send a message through the contact or advertising form, we keep what you typed — your name, email address, phone number if you gave one, and your message — together with the time and the network address it came from. We keep it so we can reply and so we have a record of the enquiry.

When you sign up for the briefing

If you sign up for the morning briefing we keep your email address, the date you joined and the network address the sign-up came from. We use the address to send you the briefing and for nothing else. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to advertisers, and we do not use it to build a profile of what you read. Every briefing carries a one-click unsubscribe link at the foot; using it stops the emails immediately, and you can also write to info@lakatips.com and we will remove you by hand.

What we do with it

  • Reply to you.
  • Keep the site working and defend it against abuse.
  • Understand, in aggregate, which sections and stories readers open, so the site can be improved.

We do not sell your details. We do not share them with advertisers. We do not send marketing email to people who wrote to us about something else.

Third parties

Two things on this site involve someone else’s server:

  • Web fonts. Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google when the page loads.
  • Links out. Opening a story takes you to the publisher’s own site, which has its own privacy practices and, very often, its own advertising and analytics. Those are outside our control and are not covered by this policy.

The pictures you see are served from lakatips.com; we do not load them from publishers’ servers as you browse, so reading Lakatips does not tell them anything about you.

How long we keep things

  • Server logs: a short rolling window, then discarded.
  • Enquiries sent through our forms: kept while the matter is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted.
  • Story read counts: aggregate numbers only, kept as long as the story is indexed.
  • Briefing sign-ups: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it. Write to info@lakatips.com and we will deal with it. You can also block cookies and third-party font loading in your browser; the site works without either.

Children

Lakatips is a general news index and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from a child.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Material changes will be flagged on the front page.
