Terms of use

These are the terms on which Lakatips is made available. They are meant to be read, so they are written plainly.

What Lakatips is

Lakatips is a news index. It gathers headlines and short extracts from Zambian newsrooms and links to their full reports. It is not a newspaper, it does not employ reporters, and it does not publish original journalism. Using the site means accepting these terms.

The stories

Every story indexed here was written and published by somebody else. Responsibility for the accuracy, fairness and legality of a report rests with the newsroom that published it. We take reasonable care in choosing which newsrooms to follow, but we do not check individual stories before they are indexed, and indexing a story is not an endorsement of it.

If you believe a story is wrong, the publisher can correct it and we cannot. Every story page links to them. If the fault is in how we have displayed or filed it, tell us.

Availability

We aim to keep the site up and current, but we do not guarantee it. Feeds go down, publishers change their systems, and servers need maintenance. Lakatips is provided as it stands, without warranty, and we are not liable for loss arising from its use or unavailability, to the extent the law allows.

Using the site

You are welcome to read, link to and share Lakatips pages. You must not:

• scrape or bulk-copy the index in a way that burdens the service, or resell it;
• attempt to break into, disrupt or overload the site;
• present Lakatips content as your own, or in a way that suggests we wrote it; or
• use the site for anything unlawful.

Reasonable, well-behaved crawlers are welcome; our robots file sets out what we ask of them, and there is an RSS feed if you want the headlines in a structured form.

Links out

Lakatips links to sites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, their advertising or their handling of your data. A link is not a recommendation.

Advertising

Commercial placements are labelled. A dealing you have with an advertiser is between you and them; we are not a party to it and take no responsibility for their goods or services. Our editorial policy explains how advertising is kept separate from the index.

Copyright

Publishers’ material stays theirs; the Lakatips name, design and code are ours. The copyright and takedown page covers this in full, including how to ask us to remove something.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the current version always lives at this address, with its date. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Zambia, and the Zambian courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
