19-year-old NRPUP supporter takes own life after political dispute with UPND-supporting sister!
A 19-year-old woman in Mambwe District has died by taking her own life following a reported political dispute with her elder sister.
The incident occurred around 10:00 hours today at Chiumbu Village in the Chief Kakumbi area.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Naomi Mmumanga.
Mweemba said Naomi was believed to be a sympathiser of the opposition NRPUP, while her elder sister was believed to support the ruling UPND.
He said the two sisters had reportedly been quarrelling over their political differences since August 22, 2026.
According to police, Naomi completed her household chores in the morning before entering her house, where she remained for an unusually long period.
A friend who went to check on her later discovered her body hanging from the roof using a chitenge material.
Police officers who visited the scene found the body, and the family reportedly does not suspect foul play.
The body has since been deposited at Mambwe District Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem and burial arrangements.
