Access Bank Zambia limited has failed to give valid reasons behind the over $433,800 immigration and border fees collected on behalf of the government but was not remitted to the treasury on 31st August 2026.
Brief fact seen in the 2025 Auditor General’s report by the Zambian Business Times- ZBT indicates that in 2024, Access Bank (Zambia) Limited was appointed as an Agent to collect revenue in respect of immigration fees such as VISA and Boarder pass fees.
However, as at 31st January 2025, the Bank had a balance of over $39,900 in respect of revenue that had been collected in the prior year but had not been remitted as at 31st December 2024.
Further, during the period from January 2025 to March 2026, revenue in amount totalling $393,880 was collected bringing the total revenue collected to $433,820.
But contrary to section 28 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act No.1 of 2018 which states “ General revenue collected by appointment agents on behalf of Government shall be transmitted to the Consolidated fund as prescribed by the Treasury.” As at 31st August 2026, the Bank had not remitted the funds to the treasury.
Zambian Business Times- ZBT reached out to Access Bank Zambia Head of Marketing Kalumbu Naikosa to get the bank’s response over the matter but referred it to the Head of Corporate Communication Alice Kalufyanya -Mwila who requested for sometime to prepare a consolidated response.
However, after the agreed time, no response was unveiled to ZBT and the phone went unanswered.
