All members of staff at the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency –ZAMMSA- have been separated from the agency in the national interest.
Health Minister ROMA CHILENGI says the decision is part of a major reset of the agency following years of problems and complaints from stakeholders.
Professor CHILENGI says the decision follows findings from a forensic audit commissioned by the Office of the Auditor General.
He says the audit found serious and widespread weaknesses in the medicines supply chain, including procurement, warehousing and distribution.

Professor CHILENGI says the audit also uncovered irregular procurements at inflated prices, unaccounted-for stock, missing system records and the diversion of medicines meant for public health facilities.
He says the findings point to systemic failures across the supply chain.
Professor CHILENGI has, however, assured the public that the supply of medicines to health facilities will continue without interruption.
He says in a statement that an interim management team has been put in place, while the Ministry will work with cooperating partners and logistics providers to maintain the distribution of medicines.
Professor CHILENGI said all separated members of staff will receive their dues in accordance with the law.
He said the Ministry will shortly advertise vacancies to fill positions under a lean structure aimed at creating a more efficient system.
Professor CHILENGI said Government will work around the clock to ensure that new management is put in place as soon as possible.
