Lusaka Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, Dr Alick Banda, has been formally charged and arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for possession of property reasonably believed to have been unlawfully obtained.

Dr Banda reported to the DEC today after being summoned yesterday in connection with ongoing investigations into the alleged possession of the property.

In a statement issued today, DEC public relations officer Allan Tamba said Dr Banda had been charged with possession of property reasonably believed to have been unlawfully obtained, pursuant to Section 319 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Tamba said Dr Banda allegedly had in his possession, on dates unknown but between April 22, 2021 and December 27, 2023, a blue Toyota Hilux motor vehicle bearing registration number ALF 7734.

DEC said the vehicle was property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

The vehicle forms part of a wider investigation involving approximately 22 ZRA motor vehicles alleged to have been improperly disposed of.

Following his formal arrest, Dr Banda is scheduled to appear before court today.

DEC said the public would be updated on the outcome of the court process as and when it is lawful to do so.
