The State has confirmed before Lusaka Senior Resident Magistrate Mwandu Nakazwe that the trial of Lusaka Archbishop ALICK BANDA, who is charged with possession of property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained, will commence on November 3, 2026.

Appearing before Magistrate Nakazwe, State Advocate Muyangwa Sitali informed the court that the State is ready to proceed with the trial next month, a position which was also confirmed by the defence.

Dr. Banda is charged under Section 319 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, with alleged possessing property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.

Particulars of the offence are that between April 22, 2021, and December 27, 2023, Dr. Banda had in his possession a blue Toyota Hilux motor vehicle suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA.

The vehicle is believed to be part of a wider investigation involving approximately 22 ZRA motor vehicles allegedly disposed of irregularly.

The Archbishop appeared before the court this morning accompanied by fellow Catholic clergy and faithful.
