By Hannock Kasama Lusaka Catholic Archbishop ALICK BANDA has been summoned to appear before the Drug Enforcement Commission –DEC- tomorrow, Monday, September 28, 2026. The summons is in connection with ongoing investigations into the alleged possession of property reasonably believed to have been unlawfully obtained. DEC Public Relations Officer ALLAN TAMBA said during a joint press briefing with the Zambia Police Service that the summons follows a warn-and-caution statement recorded by Dr. BANDA on January 5, 2026. Mr. TAMBA said Dr. BANDA is alleged to have possessed a blue Toyota Hilux motor vehicle, registration number ALF 7734, between 22 April 2021 and 27 December 2023. He said the vehicle is reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA. Mr. TAMBA said the vehicle forms part of a wider investigation involving about 22 ZRA vehicles which were allegedly improperly disposed of, resulting in the conviction of other individuals. Meanwhile, Zambia Police Public Relations Officer GODFREY CHILABI said only Dr. BANDA’s lawyers and other persons appropriately connected to the matter will be allowed to accompany him when he appears before the DEC. Mr. CHILABI has warned members of the public against engaging in unlawful assemblies, public processions or any other conduct that may breach the peace or contravene the law. He said police will take appropriate measures, in accordance with the law, to prevent any unlawful conduct.
