Former Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu has been reported to police over a viral video posted on his Facebook page in which he allegedly said he was ready to “kill for elections”.
Democratic Advocates for Good Governance Executive Director Fabian Mutale says he reported Mr Mpundu because the remarks were alarming and should be taken seriously by law enforcement authorities.
Mr Mutale says the video could cause fear and panic among members of the public ahead of Zambia’s 13 August 2026 general elections.
However, Mr Mpundu, who has since deleted the video, says his Facebook account was hacked and that the video was generated using artificial intelligence.
Police have confirmed that they have instituted investigations into the matter.
