THE Born and Bred Music Awards video categories have been unveiled, with Dunka and Best Traditional Video introduced as two new additions.

Speaking during the unveiling, Awards Founder and Committee Chairperson Innocent Kalaluka said the introduction of the two new categories was long overdue, as the music industry has continued to evolve.

He also disclosed that the awards now include Best Female and Best Upcoming Female categories to ensure female artists are adequately recognised.

Mr Kalaluka said the selection of videos in the various categories did not necessarily follow representation from different towns or provinces.

He explained that the aim of the awards is to encourage artists to produce quality videos regardless of which part of the country they come from.

“The idea is to encourage artists to invest in their music and produce good quality videos. We did not necessarily take into consideration representation from different parts of the country, as we were looking at the best music videos,” he said.

Mr Kalaluka further urged musicians to invest in their craft to enhance production quality and called on members of the public to attend the awards in large numbers, adding that this year’s event will be different.

Meanwhile, Zambia Association of Musicians President Brian Bwembya called for more sponsors to come on board and support the awards.

Mr Bwembya extended a vote of thanks to Brand Support Merchandising (BSM) for their support and for being the main sponsor of the awards.

And BSM, executive director Paul Kangombe said the company is proud to be part of an event that celebrates and empowers local talent.

“BSM has been working with various local artists, engaging them in activities such as brand ambassadorship, MC roles, and sponsorship of events like football,” Mr Kangombe said.

The awards have a total of 13 categories.
