Chasefu Town Council in Eastern Province says it has signed three contracts worth a combined K4.8 million for development projects aimed at improving healthcare and infrastructure in the district.
The contracts were signed at the Chasefu Town Council Civic Centre in accordance with the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 and the National Council for Construction Act of 2020.
Assistant Public Relations Officer, Vernon Muwema, said all the contractors engaged were duly registered with the National Council for Construction.
“The contracts signed include construction of a radiology department, hiring of a motor grader for road works and construction of an office block at the Civic Centre Phase One,” Muwema said.
He said the radiology department would enhance diagnostic capacity and access to quality healthcare in Chasefu, while reducing referrals to distant facilities such as Lundazi.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Council Chairperson Emmanuel Zgambo urged the contractors to uphold high standards of professionalism, workmanship and accountability.
Council Secretary Obbly Banda called on the contractors to ensure that the projects were completed within the stipulated timeframes and met the required quality standards.
Deputy Director of Engineering Services Bright Mwila urged the contractors to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions of their contracts, while Senior Legal Assistant Isaac Katyetye advised them to pay their workers promptly to avoid jeopardising the reputation of the local authority.
