United Party for National Development (UPND) Deputy Spokesperson, Elvis Nkandu says the party’s victory in the Chienge parliamentary seat and local government wards reflects the electorate’s confidence in the Government’s development agenda.

Mr Nkandu says the UPND’s victory demonstrates that residents are responding positively to the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and social services.

UPND’s Favourite Musangu won the parliamentary seat in Chienge Constituency, while the party won five local government seats in Chienge and two in Kalungwishi Constituency.

“We are grateful to the people of Chienge, and this victory is a clear endorsement of the development agenda being implemented by the UPND Government,” Mr Nkandu said.

Mr Nkandu said the construction of the Nchelenge-Mununga-Luchinda road is among the major developmental projects demonstrating the Government’s commitment to improving connectivity in the area.

“For many years, people saw groundbreaking ceremonies, but very little happened on the ground. Today, people can see equipment and actual construction works taking place,” Mr Nkandu said.

Mr Nkandu said the party’s growing support in Luapula Province is also attributable to the expansion of social protection programmes, including increased coverage under the Social Cash Transfer and higher allocations under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“Government has continued to put more resources into programmes that directly benefit communities, and the people are seeing these interventions,” he said.

He said the election outcome had also been accompanied by an increase in UPND membership and improved electoral margins in the constituency.

Mr Nkandu assured the people of Chienge that the UPND would not take the confidence placed in the party for granted.

“This trust is not a licence for us to relax. It is a responsibility to work even harder and ensure that development reaches more people,” he said.
