By Ruth Chayinda A 30-year-old Police Officer has been arrested in Kapiri Mposhi, Central province, for shooting and wounding his wife, following a domestic dispute. Central Province Police Commissioner LEMEKANI CHIRWA has identified the suspect as Constable JONATHAN MIYOBA, who shot his wife today around 02 hours. Mr CHIRWA says Constable MIYOBA, yesterday around 19 hours, withdrew an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and proceeded to CAMCO premises, where he had been assigned. He has explained that around 21:30 hours, the officer phoned his wife to find out where she was, and she told him that she was at the market with her elder sister. Mr CHIRWA says the response prompted the officer to leave his duty post and look for his wife at the market, but he did not find her, and he proceeded to her elder sister’s house. He has added that the officer’s wife and her sister only returned at around 02 hours, which led to a quarrel, during which he shot his wife, GLADYS MILALA, in the upper abdomen. Mr CHIRWA says the wife’s sister however managed to disarm the officer, secured the firearm in the house and later handed it over to police officers who visited the scene.
