Police in the Copperbelt have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the alleged theft of K5 million from a company bank account belonging to Coretech Supplies Limited in Kitwe.
The matter was incidented at Kitwe Central Police Station by Similawo Simbuliani, 47, a director at Coretech Supplies Limited, who reported the theft on behalf of the company.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Rae Hamoonga, said in a statement on Sunday that the company’s bank account was allegedly debited with K5 million through unauthorised electronic transfers on October 13, 2026.
The transactions reportedly occurred shortly after the company received K5 million as payment for services rendered under a contract from an unnamed institution.
“The company representative reportedly received a notification indicating that K2 million had been transferred to a named bank account without the company’s authorisation,” Hamoonga said.

He said that while the company representative was at the bank seeking clarification, a further K2,990,000 was transferred to another bank account, while K10,000 was sent to a mobile money number.
Hamoonga said security measures were activated following the alert, leading to the arrest of a suspect in Lusaka after he allegedly received K2 million in his account.
The suspect was identified as Johnson Malupande, 41, an accountant at Nexxus Manufacturing Limited.
Investigations further established that the suspect allegedly withdrew K48,000 from the account.
Police recovered K41,168 from him upon his arrest.
“On October 16, 2026, officers from Kitwe Central Police Station travelled to Lusaka and took custody of the suspect for continued investigations,” Hamoonga said.
The suspect remains in police custody, assisting with investigations.
Hamoonga said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft, trace the remaining funds and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The police also urged members of the public and business entities to remain vigilant in safeguarding their financial transactions and promptly report suspicious or unauthorised activity to the relevant authorities.
