President Hakainde Hichilema has advised the 14th National Assembly to pass laws that will advance the Grow Zambia Agenda, create jobs and strengthen the country’s “One Zambia, One Nation, One People” identity.
President Hichilema said that Parliament should work with the Executive and other arms of Government to deliver legislation that expanded economic opportunities and improved the lives of the citizens.
The Head of State said this during an approbation ceremony for re-elected Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, re-elected First Deputy Speaker Malungo Chisangano and new Second Deputy Speaker Nshamba Muzungu at State House in Lusaka yesterday.
“This Parliament should enact laws that advance the Grow Zambia Agenda. Parliament must support the Grow Zambia Agenda, and then we can move as a nation to create more jobs for our people, create more opportunities to improve the lives of our people,” President Hichilema said.
He said that the 14th National Assembly, which he was expected to officially open next Friday, would serve from 2026 to 2031 and was the most diverse Parliament in Zambia’s history.
President Hichilema said that the expanded House followed the constitutional amendment that increased the number of constituencies from 156 to 226 and introduced 40 additional seats under the Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMPR) structure.
