ZAMBIAN engineer, amateur runner and businessman Ben Bwalya completed his 10th Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on Sunday, marking another milestone in his long-distance running career. Bwalya becomes the second Zambian to run 10 Cape Town marathons, after Ronald Mambwe, who has run 12.

The achievement places Bwalya among the event’s most consistent long-distance participants. Bwalya, proprietor of Climate Control Botswana and Climate Control Zambia, is also a Fellow of the Engineering Institution of Zambia and a recipient of an honorary doctorate and the ZABA Businessman of the Year award. He said marathon running remains a key personal passion.

“I am so grateful to my family, friends, and everyone who has been part of this journey. Every kilometre carried your support,” he said.

He said the sport continues to teach him discipline, resilience and consistency — values he also applies in his professional work.

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is an official Abbott World Marathon Majors candidate race. It is bidding to become the seventh World Marathon Major and the first in Africa.
