An ex-convict is among eight suspects arrested during a police operation targeting a suspected break-in syndicate in Lusaka’s Kalikiliki and Mtendere East compounds.
According to Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha, the early morning operation, conducted by officers from Mtendere Police Station between 03:00 and 04:00 hours on Sunday, led to the arrest of 26-year-old Patrick Moyo, whom police describe as a suspected notorious ex-convict.
Police say Moyo allegedly charged at officers while armed with a panga during the operation, prompting an officer to discharge one round from a rifle.
Investigators say he fled with gunshot wounds before members of the public tipped off police to his whereabouts.
He was later found hiding in his bedroom in Kalikiliki Compound with gunshot wounds to the chest and right hand. He was subsequently taken to hospital, where he remains admitted under police guard.
Police say the operation was launched to apprehend suspects believed to be behind a spate of break-ins targeting Real Friends Shopping Complex, Bola-Bet and Linbets in Kalikiliki and Mtendere East.
Seven other suspects, including Robson Nkhoma, Andrew Mwale and five juveniles aged between 17 and 18, were also arrested.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue
