Health Ministry Begins Staff Realignment

The Ministry of Health says it has commenced a comprehensive institutional clean-up and operational realignment exercise at its headquarters.

In a statement, Health Minister Professor Roma Chilengi says the initiative aims to enforce structural compliance, restore administrative integrity and improve human resource efficiency across the health sector.

Professor Chilengi says an internal assessment revealed that 123 officers have been operating at headquarters under temporary administrative arrangements.

He says although these officers contribute to central operations, their positions fall outside the officially approved 2021 Ministry Establishment, which provides for 403 positions at headquarters.

Professor Chilengi says the Ministry is immediately redirecting all 123 officers to their substantive stations, where their official pay points and original postings are based, to eliminate structural redundancies and address critical staffing needs across the country.

He says the move is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery at frontline health facilities and decentralised administrative centres.

Professor Chilengi says following the redeployment of the 123 officers, the Ministry will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the qualifications and competencies of all personnel occupying positions within the approved 403-member headquarters establishment.
