President Hakainde Hichilema will travel to Harare, Zimbabwe, to attend the 25th Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for October 22, 2026.

The summit will be hosted by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa under the theme: “One Market, One Future: Advancing Inclusive Industrialisation, Investment and Regional Integration in COMESA.”

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister Mulambo Haimbe, said Hichilema’s participation underscored Zambia’s commitment to regional economic integration.

Haimbe said the participation also reflected Zambia’s commitment to pursuing the Grow Zambia Agenda, which seeks to promote economic growth, expand trade, attract investment and create opportunities for Zambian businesses and citizens.

“It will also oversee the transfer of instruments of power from outgoing Chairperson Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of Kenya, to incoming Chairperson Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, ushering in a new Bureau comprising Zimbabwe as Chairperson, the Kingdom of Eswatini as Vice-Chairperson and Kenya as Rapporteur,” Haimbe stated.

He said Hichilema was also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders on the sidelines of the summit to discuss matters of mutual interest, including opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, expand trade and investment, and advance Zambia’s development priorities.

“As host of the COMESA Secretariat, Zambia remains firmly committed to the objectives and ideals of COMESA and stands ready to continue working closely with fellow Member States to advance the shared vision of a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful region,” Haimbe assured.
