Mbala Electoral Officer Calls for Peace Ahead of Mayoral by-Election

The Mbala District Electoral Officer, Laura Munkanta, has called on political parties and candidates to uphold peace, fairness, and transparency ahead of the Mbala Mayoral by-election scheduled for October 2026.

Speaking during a District Political Party Liaison Committee meeting, Ms. Mbala says the meeting is aimed at promoting cooperation and building confidence among stakeholders participating in the election, which follows the death of former Mayor-elect Steward Simutenda.

She says the Electoral Commission is set to conduct nominations on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Mbala District Council Chamber.

Ms. Mbala disclosed that voter education activities had commenced in all nine wards, involving door-to-door mobilisation, public meetings, and distribution of electoral materials.

She has also reminded political parties that accreditation of officials and representatives would close on October 7, 2026, at 17:00 hours.

She has since urged all stakeholders to abide by the Electoral Code of Conduct and co-exist peacefully despite political differences.
