The Lusaka High Court has adjourned to Wednesday the hearing of the constitutional bail application by Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and 17 others detained over alleged treason, sedition and terrorism-related offences.

The State has been given more time to respond to the application, which seeks their release pending trial.

The 19 applicants have sued Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha and others, arguing that their continued detention without trial violates their constitutional rights.

They want the court to order their release or grant them bail under reasonable conditions, saying ongoing investigations should not justify prolonged detention.

The State has been ordered to serve its opposition by midday today, with the applicants expected to file their reply by tomorrow, with the matter returning to court on Wednesday at 08:30 for hearing.
