Nasty D ‘Ataya’ ma dreadlocks in Independence Day new look.

ACCLAIMED Zambian legendary musician Nasty D, real names Davis Ngoma, seems to have kept an ‘Independence Day’ surprise new look for his fanatics.

The Aitaya Ziko La M’tendere singer, has cut his signature long dreadlocks, a new look which some of his fans describe as “neat and dope!”.

The adored singer, who started out as a DJ and promoter of a mobile disco, has had the long hair most of his life, but not anymore.

The 52 year-old Bomabasa hit maker, who celebrated his birthday last month, confesses how he almost failed to recognise the dread-lock-less version of himself in the mirror.

“I almost didn’t recognize myself……yes my new look. And no I am not joining any church, not being sent into foreign mission, not running for mayor or parliament and neither am I planning to run for president. I remain Jaxx Akapondo ka nsansa and still Zambezi.

“Happy Independence Day ba Zambia ❤️💛💚,” Nasty D wrote on his Facebook page today, and tagged a picture of his transformed appearance.

As expected, the comment section had bitter-sweet feelings but majority of the followers, including fellow artistes, loved the new look.

“What!!!!! Looks dope sir!!” fellow artiste Magg44 reacted.

A comment from Henry Chisanga Tukombe read “You look neat big man” while Uncle jumbe found the new look “Fresh and clean”.

But understandably, other fans feel sad about the ‘removal’ of the “crown of dreadlocks”.

“Don’t make us cry again ba Nasty, you always look good in your crown of dread locks,” Innocent Litata wrote.

Another ‘protester’, Lengwe Governor Kabwe wrote ”

Aweh naimwe, dread a signature ifyo”.

And follower jokingly used the singer’s lyrics saying “Why “Mwaitaya” dread Uncle Nasty D 😭”.

Nasty D started out as a DJ and promoter of a mobile disco that was known as EHD, according to MusicAfrica.Net.

The musician is one the founding fathers of modern day Zambian music which he himself used to call Zambezi music, a fusion of kalifunku, kalindula as well as modern day Zambian music.

While attending college, he formed his first music group in Zimbabwe called T2Z. The rap outfit comprised of a Tanzanian (Ommy Luv) and a Zimbabwean (Mash Me).

He came back to Zambia upon completing his studies and made his first public appearance as a musician on a local T.V. production called Sounds Good where he sang ‘Good Milile’ (i.e. Good Health). The track became an instant hit on the show and marked his step to fame.
