By Sharon Siame The Church Mother Bodies have announced the consolidation of the National Day of Prayer and the Commemoration of Zambia as a Christian Nation into a single event. The new unified observance will be known as the National Day of Prayer and Christian Heritage. Announcing the development in Lusaka today on behalf of the Church Mother Bodies, the Council of Churches in Zambia Vice President JUDEN SIACHITEMA Bishop SIACHITEMA said the first major commemoration under the consolidated name is scheduled for December 29, 2026. Bishop SIACHITEMA further said that for the current year, the National Day of Prayer will proceed but will not involve a single National gathering because the date falls on a Sunday. He said that individual churches are urged to conduct prayers for the nation during their regular Sunday services. Bishop SIACHITEMA said that the decision follows consultations between the church mother bodies and the Government. He said that the move is intended to create a more inclusive and sustainable national observance that emphasizes unity, peace and reconciliation .
