The Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ will tomorrow wait for the fresh nomination of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity NRPUP in the Lumezi North Parliamentary election after its candidate Clement Mwale died before the poll day.

The nominations of two other candidates namely Nebby Manda of Leadership Movement LM and United Party for National Development (UPND Anderson Banda remain valid and no any political party will be allowed to file fresh nominations apart from the affected NRPUP party.

According to Article 52 clause (c) of the Constitution Amendment Act of 2025, it states that when a sponsored candidate by a political party dies before the date prescribed for the holding of an election, the Electoral Commission shall cancel the election, and call for the filing of a fresh nomination by the political party whose candidate died, and the election shall be held within thirty days of filing of the fresh nomination.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set 8th October 2026 as a day for nomination and 5th November as a day for holding of an election.

Meanwhile Lumezi Electoral Officer Aaron Keith Kuchaya has urged the Zambia Police Service to remain impartial in the manner they will police the Electoral process in Lumezi District.

Mr. Kachaya was speaking in Lumezi during the opening of uniformed staff.
