SUCCESSFUL businesses are often seen at the peak of their achievements but behind many of them are years of struggle and uncertainty.
This is the experience shared by Great North Road Group of Companies chief executive officer Dr Rozious Siatwambo and his wife and co-founder, Nachombe Kabunda.
Speaking at a business brunch hosted by entrepreneur Sarah Mako popularly known as Royalty, Dr Siatwambo said their business journey began in 2005 with just four clients at their tuition centre.
He revealed that it took six years before the enterprise began generating profit in 2011, describing the period as one of patience, persistence and financial difficulty.
Dr Siatwambo used his experience to caution aspiring entrepreneurs against expecting immediate success, saying building a sustainable business requires time and discipline.

“You can’t start a business today and expect to make a profit immediately. We started in 2005 and only began making profit in 2011,” he said.
He also noted that emotional stability and attitude are key components of business success and that entrepreneurs must also be open to networking and learning.
“Your business depends on your emotional stability. You must have patience. Learn to network and maintain the right attitude,” he said.
He also encouraged entrepreneurs to maintain a positive and approachable demeanor.
“You can’t be in business and always look unapproachable. Always wear a smile. Some of you are just too heavy for a business,” he said.
The brunch brought together entrepreneurs from various sectors for networking and experience sharing.
Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development permanent secretary Subeta Mutelo officiated the same event.
