A police officer stationed at Chifunabuli Police Post in Luapula Province has been arrested and charged with the alleged rape of his 17-year-old sister-in-law.

Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Lucky Munkhondya confirmed the incident to diamond Tv and identified the suspect as 30 year old police officer based at Chifunabuli Police Post.

According to police, the minor was watching television in the sitting room when the suspect allegedly made unwanted advances towards her, which she rejected.

Ms Munkhondya said the suspect allegedly restrained the minor and sexually assaulted her without her consent.

The commissioner said the matter was reported to police on October 3, 2026, after the minor informed a family member, who advised her to report the matter.
