Blades 2-1 Power

Champions Power Dynamos were left shocked by Konkola Blades yesterday but head coach Oswald Mutapa refused to dwell on the defeat he felt was self-inflicted in this opening fixture of the MTN Super League Stream A.

“It’s a disappointing loss of course but we have to dust the defeat and move on. I feel we created many chances but failed to convert them. We have to start planning for Nchanga Rangers at home now,” he said.

Blades coach Beston Chambeshi was full of praise for his players for standing up to a giant of Zambian football.

“It was a tough game against the champions. We know they are the champions but we told the boys we have to be on our toes and give our best and they did just that. You know this is a short season so we have to get the points early,” he said.

Blades scored the first goal of the season and it came in the first minute through Clive Biyeta and when the champions equalised in the 82nd minute through Amine Hiver, it looked like the spoils would be shared.

But the home side had other ideas, and thanks to the pressure exerted on their visitors as an own goal by Wilson Chisala from a corner three minutes later to give Blades maximum points.

Bankers tame Rangers
Rangers 0-1 Zanaco

ZANACO assistant coach Noel Mwandila praised his team for maintaining game discipline and walking off Nchanga Stadium with all three points against Nchanga Rangers.

“It’s a great result. It’s not easy to come to Nchanga Stadium and get a win. It’s kudos to the boys for it. It was a tough game against a very difficult opponent,” he said.

And the winner, the only goal of the game came early in the match from Simon Tonga who netted in only the fourth minute to stun the home fans.

Tana delights as Nkana win
Trident 0-1 Nkana

NKANA coach Elijah Tana could not hide his excitement after his team started the transitional season with an away win over promoted Trident.

“It’s a great win. I’m so excited to start the season with a win and I can only hope we continue working hard like this in the coming games. The guys executed the game plan well and we continue to work like this, we will do well this season,” he said.

It was veteran Charles Zulu who delivered the all important goal for the reds in the 19th minute.
