The curtain has come down on Carlos Queiroz’s time in charge of the Black Stars, with the veteran coach and the Ghana Football Association reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
In a farewell statement filled with gratitude and reflection, Queiroz revealed that both parties had concluded that ending their professional relationship was the best way forward, placing the interests of Ghanaian football above all else.
The Portuguese tactician admitted the decision was far from straightforward, but acknowledged that recent results, combined with challenges behind the scenes, contributed to the outcome, reports Super Sport.
Despite arriving with an ambition to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and nurture Ghana’s emerging talent, Queiroz felt the environment required to fully realise that vision was never completely in place.
Even so, he leaves with his admiration for Ghana undiminished.

“It has been an honour to serve Ghana and the Black Stars,” Queiroz said, thanking the Ghana Football Association and its president for the trust placed in him to lead one of Africa’s most storied football nations.
His departure comes at a pivotal moment, with Ghana continuing preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Queiroz paid special tribute to the players who represented the nation during his tenure, praising their commitment, courage and willingness to carry the expectations of millions of supporters.
In an emotional message directed at the Ghanaian public, he urged fans to stand behind the current generation of Black Stars players, insisting the foundations for future success remain firmly in place.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he appealed.
Queiroz remains convinced that Ghana possess the talent and potential to compete at the highest level, provided the team is given the unity, backing and environment necessary to flourish.
He also thanked his technical staff and everyone involved in supporting the national team project, particularly those who worked alongside him during the early stages of preparations for World Cup 2026.
As he closes this chapter, Queiroz leaves with a simple message: Ghana comes first.
The Black Stars move forward in search of a new direction, while the departing coach takes with him memories of a passionate football nation he says he will always hold close with respect and affection.
For Ghana, attention now turns firmly to the future and the next chapter in the ongoing quest to restore the Black Stars to the summit of African football.
