Galatasaray winger Rafael Leão will wear Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous No. 7 jersey when Portugal faces Denmark tonight, in the UEFA Nations League.
Ronaldo will miss the match after leaving the Portugal camp on Wednesday, following his side’s match against Norway, which he watched from the bench.
UEFA has since confirmed Portugal’s squad list for the match, with Leão assigned the No. 7 shirt.
International regulations require teams to use consecutive squad numbers from 1 to 23, meaning Portugal cannot leave No. 7 vacant when Ronaldo is unavailable.
The number has previously been worn by players including Gonçalo Guedes, Carlos Forbs and Bruma during Ronaldo’s absences.
