Some residents of Samfya, Luapula Province, have looted part of the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) fertiliser after a truck carrying the consignment overturned.
The accident occurred yesterday, 23 September 2026, at around 04:30 hours on the Tuta Road near Changwena village in Chief KALASAMUKOSO’s area.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer LUCKY MUNKONDYA confirmed the incident, stating that police have launched investigations into the theft of an unknown number of bags of fertiliser.
Ms MUNKONDYA said the accident involved a HOWO truck and trailer driven by JOSEPH PHIRI, aged 36, who reportedly dozed off.
She explained that after the truck overturned, residents began looting the fertiliser, and by the time police arrived, only a few bags remained.
Ms MUNKONDYA added that police are working with the driver, currently admitted to Musaila Health Centre, to establish the number of bags the truck was carrying.
