The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called for concerted efforts to achieve universal health coverage.

Speaking during the closing session of the Inter-Regional Economic Communities Meeting on Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience in Lusaka, SADC Head of Health Dr Lamboly Kumboneki said Africa faces increasingly complex health challenges that require countries to work together.

He urged African countries to collaborate to achieve sustainable local production of medicines.

World Health Organisation Representative to the African Union Professor Francis Kasolo said regional cooperation should translate into stronger health systems.

He emphasised the need to implement the joint action framework on health to ensure progress towards lasting health solutions that deliver tangible benefits to communities across the region.
