“It is hard to find the words,” was Chipolopolo coach Moses Sichone’s reaction to Zambia’s humiliating 3–0 defeat to Morocco that ushered the team out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) last night.

Chipolopolo were taught a football lesson that left Sichone with no answers. The class started as early as the ninth minute when Ayoub El Kaabi headed in a pass from Azzedine Ounahi.

In the 37th minute, Zambia were dismantled again, allowing Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz to score past Power Dynamos goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.

Morocco dominated the game and had nine shots on goal to Zambia’s zero.

“It is hard to find the words,” Sichone said in the post-match interview. “This is the outcome, so we need to excuse ourselves over the performance.”

Two turned into three as El Kaabi eluded the defence in the second half to score a spectacular overhead kick in the 50th minute, giving Zambia an early plane ticket back to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Sichone, however, appeared pleased with the second-half performance.

“At least in the second half we looked better, but it was too late,” he said.

Zambia have left the AfCON stage with two points in Group A. Morocco and Mali have progressed to the round of 16.
