Spain are the 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in the final, securing their second World Cup title and their first since lifting the trophy in 2010.
The victory ended Argentina’s hopes of winning a fourth World Cup crown as Spain produced a disciplined performance to overcome Lionel Messi’s side on football’s biggest stage.
Spain’s triumph caps an impressive tournament in which they eliminated Portugal, Belgium and France before defeating Argentina in the final.
For Argentina, the defeat brings to an end another memorable World Cup campaign after victories over Egypt, Switzerland and England carried them to the final.
Despite falling short, Lionel Messi once again played a key role in guiding the reigning champions to the tournament’s showpiece match.
