By Memory Bbuku

Three men have been found with a case to answer in a matter in which they are accused of trafficking 29 Ethiopians whose bodies were discovered in the Ngwerere area in December 2022.

The accused, LUSAKA drivers JAIROS NJOBVU and STEVEN SITALI, and business executive PERTIAS MAYEMBE, are facing 29 counts of trafficking in persons before the Lusaka High Court.

Delivering the ruling, Constitutional Court Judge PIXIE YANGAILO, sitting as a High Court judge, said the State has established a prima facie case against the three accused men.

Judge YANGAILO said she is satisfied that the evidence presented by the prosecution had met the threshold required to establish a prima facie case.

The judge has since placed the three accused men on their defence.
Meanwhile, defence lawyers have applied for an adjournment to allow them to obtain further instructions from their clients.

The lawyers told the court that they were not ready to proceed with the defence.

Judge YANGAILO has adjourned the matter to November 26, 2026 for the commencement of the defence.
