VLOGGER and businessman Simon Chitambala Mwewa has been elected Mayor of Lusaka after polling 200,029 votes in the August 13 general elections.

Lusaka Returning Officer Oliver Muka declared Mr. Chitambala duly elected on Wednesday.

Standing on the United Party for National Development (UPND) ticket, Mr. Mwewa defeated NRPUP’s Gabriel Kibombwe who polled 195,041 votes — a margin of just 4,988 votes.

Independent candidate Simon Mwila finished third with 32,043 votes, followed by Namuchiya Banda with 7,444 votes. Independent Crispin Kabole got 4,615 votes, while Citizens First’s David Nyirenda polled 3,017 votes.

A total of 450,600 votes were cast, with 8,026 ballots rejected.

In his acceptance remarks, the Mayor-Elect said his first priority would be cleanliness.

“I only have one thing to say, the number one issue in the city is cleanliness. There is a lot of work to do, I think we can start from there,” he said.
