By Chansa Kunda

The Zambia Futsal National Team has been eliminated from the ongoing 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations following a 7-4 defeat to Algeria last night.

Zambia started its campaign on a promising note, beating former AFCON runners-up Libya 3-1 before suffering a 7-0 defeat to hosts Morocco in its second group match.

The loss to Algeria brought an end to Zambia’s campaign, as the team needed a win or a draw to advance to the semi-finals.

The result meant Zambia finished its Group A campaign with one win and two defeats, bowing out of the competition with three points.

Speaking after the match, Zambia Futsal Men’s National Team Head Coach ANDREA CRISTOFORETTI said despite the early exit, the tournament had provided a good platform to expose the players to international competition.

CRISTOFORETTI said Zambia currently has a youthful team that needs more exposure as it seeks to compete at continental level and qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Team captain CHOTA CHILESHE said the team had done its best but came up against stronger opponents.

CHILESHE said the players would learn from the experience and return stronger in future competitions.
