Zambia thanks outgoing UN Resident Coordinator Beatrice Mutali

GOVERNMENT has commended outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator Beatrice Mutali for her “dedicated service and invaluable contribution” to the country’s development during her four-year tenure.

Vice President Dr. W.K. Mutale-Nalumango said the government and people of Zambia expressed “profound appreciation” for Ms. Mutali’s partnership, commitment and friendship.

“Your tenure has coincided with a period in which Zambia has faced significant challenges, including economic pressures, public health emergencies, climate-related shocks and the devastating drought,” Dr. Mutale-Nalumango said. “Throughout these challenges, the United Nations, under your leadership, stood with Government and the Zambian people in strengthening our national response and resilience.”

She cited the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023–2027 as an important instrument for aligning UN support with priorities in the Eighth National Development Plan.

The Vice President said the government valued UN partnership in education, health, agriculture, food and nutrition security, social protection, youth empowerment, gender equality, climate resilience and democratic governance.

Dr. Mutale-Nalumango also acknowledged Ms. Mutali’s work on women and girls’ empowerment through the Zambia Chapter of the African Women Leaders Network.

As Zambia prepares the Ninth National Development Plan and the next UN Cooperation Framework, Dr. Mutale-Nalumango said the government looked forward to “maintaining and further strengthening this partnership.”

“Madam Mutali, while we are saddened to see you leave Zambia, we are grateful for the friendship and goodwill you have towards our country,” she said. “Please be assured that you will always remain a friend of Zambia.”

Dr. Mutale-Nalumango concluded: “May God bless you, and may God continue to bless the Republic of Zambia.”
