THE Zambia Revenue Authority has raided Picton Management Company Limited over suspected tax evasion and financial irregularities in its manufacturing operations.

ZRA said preliminary investigations point to possible under-declaration of production and sales, and suspected non-compliance with Value Added Tax, Excise Duty, and Customs requirements.
Picton Management Company Limited is principally owned by Pacific Cigarette Company Private Limited of Zimbabwe.
The Authority said initial assessments suggest the company may have failed to accurately declare the true volume of locally manufactured and sold products.
ZRA is also examining suspected irregularities relating to the importation of raw materials, raising concerns under the Value Added Tax Act, the Customs and Excise Act, and the Cigarette Tax Stamp Rules.
The inquiry covers the company’s manufacturing and distribution operations in Villa Elizabetha, Lusaka. Senior management and other relevant personnel are currently under review.
During the operation, ZRA seized records, electronic devices and other documentation forming part of the evidence under investigation.
“ZRA continues to strengthen its compliance and enforcement activities across the country, and any taxpayer found to have contravened the law will be dealt with in accordance with the relevant legislation,” the Authority said.
It cautioned all manufacturers of excisable products against engaging in tax evasion or any form of non-compliance.
All findings relating to this matter remain allegations until the investigation is concluded through due process.
