ZRA Recovers Over K21.6 Million From Luanshya Taxpayer

THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has recovered over K21.6 million in unpaid taxes after Amfube Investment Limited was convicted of tax evasion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court in Luanshya.

ZRA initiated criminal proceedings against the Luanshya-based company for providing false returns and statements, a violation of the Value Added Tax Act.

Court facts presented between 1 October 2021 and 30 September 2023 show Amfube Investments submitted information to ZRA purporting that it was supplied with taxable goods by different companies. The information was false in material particular. The company also failed to furnish a return of income for the 2023 charge year.

The deceptive act led to loss of government revenue in Value Added Tax and Income Tax amounting to K21,602,751.10.

When the matter came up for Plea Agreement on 23 June 2026 before His Honour Dr. Samson Mumba sitting as Economic and Financial Crimes Court Luanshya, the accused pleaded guilty to ten counts of furnishing false returns and statements contrary to Section 43 of the VAT Act Chapter 331.

The Court convicted and sentenced the company to a fine of K30,000, payable on or before 16 July 2026, in default of which a warrant of distress will be issued.

Amfube Investments further paid the evaded VAT and Income Tax of K21,602,751.10 to ZRA and refunded the State K250,000 for prosecution expenses incurred.

ZRA has urged taxpayers to be compliant and pay their fair share of taxes, saying it remains relentless in fighting all forms of tax evasion. The Authority says it has intensified enforcement targeting false income declarations, smuggling, and non-usage of Smart Invoice.
