GEORGE Lwandamina’s Chipolopolo is set to face off against world champions Argentina in an international friendly on March 31.
Argentina are set to host Chipolopolo in what will be their second international friendly against African opposition in less than four months.
In November, Lionel Messi’s Argentina played Angola in a match that was officiated by Zambian referee Hilary Hambaba.
The Argentine Football Association has since confirmed the international friendly against Chipolopolo in a Facebook post on Saturday.
“#FechaFIFA The Argentine national team, led by Lionel Scaloni, will face their second friendly commitment of the FIFA Date against Zambia, next Tuesday 31 March from 20.15, at la bombonera” a post from Argentina’s official Facebook page read in part.
Argentina were initially scheduled to play against Guatemala, but the game has been cancelled, forcing the world champions to turn to Chipolopolo.
This will be Zambia’s second high-profile game against an opponent outside Africa, with their last encounter being against Russia on March 5, 2025.
Interestingly, Chipolopolo are scheduled to participate in the Four – Nations tournament in Botswana about the same time the Argentina friendly has been scheduled. The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is yet to issue a statement.
