The Judiciary and Allied Workers Union of Zambia says the temporary closure of courts in some parts of the country has been necessitated by the detection of a strong security threat.
Authorities have also deployed security officers to man the court premises.
Union president Peter Mwale says although he cannot provide further details about the threat, the security wings warned the Judiciary about the security situation.
Mr Mwale has since urged Judiciary workers to remain on high alert and not to allow themselves to be used by politicians.
On Sunday, 23 August 2026, police arrested the Judiciary’s acting Chief Security Officer, Peter Zimba.
Authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement on the matter.
