By Chansa Kunda

Government has condemned the chanting of political slogans by some individuals during yesterday’s league match between NKANA FC and MAKENI ALL STARS at Nkana Stadium.

Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary KANGWA CHILESHE says the conduct is unacceptable and has no place in sport.

CHILESHE says sport should not be used to advance political agendas but should instead unite people across political and social divides.

He warns that allowing political activities at football matches could provoke rival groups, create unnecessary tension and potentially lead to violence.

CHILESHE says stadia must remain safe spaces for players, officials and supporters, and that any conduct threatening peace and order at sporting events will not be tolerated.

He has called on the Football Association of Zambia –FAZ, the Zambia Premier League and football clubs to caution their supporters against engaging in political chants or activities during matches.

CHILESHE says clubs must take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters and ensure that the incident at Nkana Stadium does not set a precedent.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC Sports News by Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Principal Public Relations Officer NCHIMUNYA NG’ANDU.
