Local beats ignite Kwacha Music Awards hype

Zambia's Kwacha Music Awards has confirmed 27 November 2026 as the date for its highly anticipated ceremony, with organisers promising a transparent nomination process driven directly by nationwide radio airplay.

The countdown to Zambia’s most prominent musical night has officially begun. The Kwacha Music Awards Organising Committee HAS sparked countrywide excitement by locking in Friday, November 27, 2026, as the official date for this year’s ceremony.

Across social media and radio waves, fans are actively debating who will walk away with the industry’s highest honors.

The excitement is building rapidly, driven entirely by radio airplay tracking across a massive network of 45 radio stations nationwide.

This airplay tracking directly shapes the highly anticipated list of nominees. According to the committee, this extensive collaboration ensures that the public’s real listening habits directly guide the voting lists.

Industry leaders are stressing the transparency and integrity of this year’s selection system. Davies Kabuswe, the Kwacha Music Awards Executive President and Chairman, confirmed that the process relies on strict professional rules.

“The nomination process for this year’s awards is well underway,” Kabuswe stated.

“Nominations are being handled professionally by 45 selected radio stations, according to strict guidelines, and no payment is required. Artists should beware of scammers who might demand payment in exchange for a nomination.”

This clear focus on fairness has built strong trust within the music community. The committee has also strengthened its ties with local creators by adding two executive members from the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) to ensure the interests of the artists are well represented.

As the committee prepares to open the voting channels via the official website and USSD codes, fans are already making their voices heard. Online forums are packed with predictions for major categories like Song of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Song, and Best Male Artist.

At the same time, the awards are drawing praise for how they honour the creators who laid the groundwork for modern Zambian music.

A prominent example is the legendary Danny Kaya, who was recently celebrated by the committee. “For me, when you talk Zambian music you don’t mention his name, then tawishibe efyo ule landapo (you don’t know what you are talking about),” wrote James Prosper Kolala, a supporter highlighting the importance of the Lifetime Achievement Award given to the icon.

The upcoming ceremony promises to highlight the theme of “Prestige, Excellence, and Honour”.

With heavyweights like Yo Maps – who historically dominated past ceremonies – and rising stars running close on the airplay charts, the stage is set for an unpredictable and thrilling night of celebration.

Music lovers countrywide are holding their breath as the final voting window draws near. On November 27, the entire nation will look toward the main stage to see exactly who shapes the future of Zambian sound.
