NGOCC DEMANDS IMMEDIATE EVACUATION OF CRITICALLY ILL MAFINGA SOUTH MP TO LUSAKA

By Francis Maingaila ♥️

Lusaka, Zambia24 — 16 September 2026 — The Non-governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) is demanding the immediate evacuation of Mafinga South Member of Parliament Hon. Faith Munthali to Lusaka following reports that she is critically ill and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a health facility in Isoka.

NGOCC Board Chairperson Beauty Katebe said Munthali’s condition is a matter of serious concern, particularly to her family, constituents and the wider women’s movement.

Katebe said Government should urgently facilitate Munthali’s transfer to Lusaka so that she can access specialised medical care and better-equipped health facilities.

“In light of the seriousness of her condition, we call upon the Government to urgently facilitate her medical evacuation to Lusaka, where she can access specialised medical care and better-equipped health facilities,” Katebe said.

She said Munthali, like every other citizen, is entitled to the highest attainable standard of healthcare and humane treatment regardless of her political affiliation, status or legal circumstances.

Katebe said people in custody or under State responsibility must be treated with dignity and respect.

She also reminded the authorities that Munthali remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

“Therefore, we demand that Hon. Faith Munthali be accorded the dignity befitting her humanity and the courtesy due to a civic leader of her stature,” Katebe said.

Katebe said the preservation of life should take precedence over other considerations and urged authorities to act swiftly to safeguard Munthali’s health and wellbeing.

NGOCC said it stands in solidarity with Munthali, her family and the people of Mafinga South and wished the lawmaker a quick recovery.
