The Tobacco Board of Zambia -TBZ- says it is on course to meet its target of buying 80 million kilogrammes of tobacco during the 2026 marketing season.

TBZ Executive Director ROBERT MWALE says the board has so far bought 67 million kilogrammes of tobacco worth 135 million United States dollars.

Mr. MWALE said this in an interview with ZNBC News on the sidelines of the Kulamba Traditional Ceremony in Katete District.

He said the board is confident of reaching the target before the close of the marketing season on 30th September 2026.

Mr. MWALE urged farmers to prepare early for the next growing season and plant drought-resistant seed varieties.

He also advised farmers to insure their crops against possible losses, citing forecasts of drought in the coming season.
