Two women have been apprehended in Mazabuka, Southern Province, for alleged possession of counterfeit kwacha banknotes. Southern Province Police Commanding Officer MOONO NAMALONGO confirmed the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at around 23:30 hours. Mr NAMALONGO identified the suspects as JOYCE PHIRI, aged 28, of Old Chawama compound, and MATILDA PHIRI, aged 32, of Chipili compound, both in Lusaka. He explained that the women were intercepted by a member of the Community Crime Prevention Unit after attempting to use a fake K100 note at Kaleya station market. Upon being searched, the suspects were found in possession of 25 suspected counterfeit K100 notes, amounting to K2,500. Mr NAMALONGO said the women are detained in police custody, while the notes have been secured as investigations continue. #CounterfeitMoney #Mazabuka #SouthernProvince #PoliceArrests #ZNBCNews
