ZRA Commissions 220kW Solar System to Cut Grid Reliance

THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has commissioned a 220kWp solar power system in a bid to improve energy reliability and reduce costs amid national power challenges.

Commissioner General Dingani Banda officially launched the project. It comprises a 120kW installation at ZRA Head Office in Lusaka and a 100kW system at Mpendwa House in Ndola.

Banda said the project is a “significant milestone” in ZRA’s push for operational excellence, sustainability and innovation.

“As we are all aware, Zambia’s hydro-electricity generation has been affected by cyclical droughts,” Banda said. “In response and in line with the Presidential directive to adopt alternative energy sources, the Authority is expanding solar power systems across its stations to improve power reliability, reduce dependency on the national grid and support sustainable service delivery.”

He said the system will protect sensitive ICT infrastructure, improve power reliability, cut long-term electricity costs, and support government’s target of adding 10 gigawatts of generation capacity by 2031.

The solar rollout forms part of ZRA’s broader transformation agenda to invest in modern, sustainable infrastructure. Banda also urged taxpayers to use energy-sector tax incentives.
