PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has donated K1 million towards the Copperbelt University (CBU) Challenge, a fundraising initiative aimed at expanding infrastructure and improving learning facilities.
CBU vice-chancellor Imasiku Nyambe said the contribution will support the construction of additional facilities as student enrolment continues to rise.
He said the university’s student population has grown from about 500 when it was established in the 1980s to more than 20,000 currently, putting pressure on existing infrastructure.

Professor Nyambe said the CBU Challenge was introduced to mobilise financial and material support from corporate organisations, alumni, students and other stakeholders.
He appealed to the public and businesses to contribute according to their financial capacity.
“Whether it is K10 or K5, every contribution counts,” Prof Nyambe said.
He disclosed that the university is building a 1,000-seater lecture theatre using funds raised through a marathon held in June.
Prof Nyambe said collective support is essential to creating a conducive learning environment and strengthening the university’s capacity to provide quality higher education. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
