Fans of Yo Maps have taken to social media to debate his sound, with some claiming his songs feel repetitive following the release of his album Vibes on Vibes.
In an interview with Lusaka Star, his producer C Mark Tracks said critics may not fully appreciate the artist’s growth if they have not followed his musical journey closely.
He pointed to tracks such as “Mr and Mrs” and “Lwambo” as examples of how the artist’s recent work differs from his earlier releases.
C Mark Tracks urged listeners to engage with the full album to better understand its concept and range of sounds.
However, some fans maintain that the similarities are noticeable. Gamalie Mphanza said many of Yo Maps’ songs carry a familiar style and emotional tone.
“It’s mostly the sound and message. He often uses similar beats and talks about love in the same way, which gives his songs the same vibe,” she said.
She added that while this consistency can be appealing, it may also become repetitive over time.
Another fan, Samson Kumwenda, echoed the sentiment, saying the artist’s songs can blend into each other when listened to consecutively.
“When I listen to a lot of his songs back to back, they start to feel the same,” he said, noting that recurring themes of love and relationships, along with similar production styles, contribute to the perception.
The debate highlights a broader divide among listeners between those who value artistic consistency and those who expect more variation in sound.
