NAIS- A small-scale farmer in Kasama District has registered a first-ever livestock forage seed company to boost trade and business opportunities. The company will produce and promote a range of livestock grasses, pasture seeds and legumes to meet the growing demand for livestock feed. TUESDAY SHULA says he has registered “Petishu Forage Seed Company” to improve market access and establish linkages with livestock farmers. He was speaking during a joint field visit by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Mr SHULA said he has so far harvested more than 234 kilograms of Mun River grass seed. Mr SHULA said he is also expecting to harvest more than 1-thousand – 600 bales of Mun River grass, which he plans to sell to livestock farmers across Zambia . And the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Kasama District Marketing and Development Officer, RICKY MUNDENDA, says formal registration of the business will position Mr SHULA to access various government empowerment opportunities. Mr MUNDENDA said the farmer should also consider investing in irrigation equipment to enable him to produce pasture seed and livestock feed year-round. Meanwhile, Kasama District Agricultural Coordinator Dr STANLEY NJOVU has encouraged farmers to venture into livestock production during the 2026/2027 farming season as a way to build resilience against climate change. Dr NJOVU said with forecasts of an El Niño event during the 2026/2027 season, farmers should diversify their agricultural activities to safeguard food and income security. #PetishuForageSeed
